MDG were approached by Mott MacDonald to initially undertake a feasibility study to relocate the head office of The Environment Agency, currently in Solihull, to Aqua House in Birmingham.

Critical to the design was to create an inviting and vibrant work space that not only provided an exceptional workplace but also encouraged interaction between teams within an open plan philosophy. Challenges to the design team involved the incorporation of secure and non-secure departments with several different levels of security control throughout the building.

Following a successful stakeholder period MDG were invited to submit planning and produce the developed design and tender documentation for the implementation of the scheme. The project incorporates the latest Environment Agency corporate identity, which MDG assisted in developing for this bespoke project.

MDG used its expertise in visualisation and virtual reality to portray the scheme to the Environment Agency decision makers as well as the wider stakeholder groups.
