SKILTS SEN SCHOOL OPENS ITS DOORS TO PUPILS

MDG are pleased to announce that the brand new Skilts SEN school in Kitts Green, Birmingham, is fully operating. Lea Hall Academy opened its doors for pupils for the first time in autumn, welcoming 140 local children with learning and behavioural difficulties.

Located on the grounds of the former Hallmoor School, this project saw the complete demolition of the existing dated building and replacement with new-build single-storey classroom wings connected via a double-storey core element. The Academy houses 19 regular classrooms, specially focused spaces such as food, science, music/drama and sensory rooms as well as a fully-equipped double height sports hall.

The domestic nature of the surrounding area inspired the choice of materials, comprising of buff brickwork, parchment split blockwork and slender timber rockpanels of predominantly grey carbon oak colour, with featuring yellow panels, employed to give prominence to key areas.

Internally, the colours have been mindfully selected to achieve the perfect balance between vibrancy and tranquillity to cater for the dynamic needs of the pupils.
